The new Humber River Regional Hospital should be built here, in the Jane/Finch community,” said Rennie Tergbogt, a local health care provider. “Why won’t the Board [of the hospital] talk to us about it?"
On December 19, 2005, the Ontario Government announced that Humber River Regional Hospital (HRRH) would have a new home. It is believed the new hospital will be built on the Ministry of Transportation lands southwest of the Keele and Wilson intersection.
No meeting was held with the Jane Finch or any other community about this move.
A group of residents, calling themselves the Coalition to Save Our Hospital, has been meeting to try to get the Province and HRRH to reconsider.

They met, earlier this month with MPP Mario Sergio who would not confirm if the move was a “done deal.” He promised to call a community meeting on the issue before the HRRH Annual General Meeting mid June.

It believes that the new hospital should be built on the Finch site for a number of reasons:

• The current HRRH Finch Site and the 400HWY is the best hospital location in the GTA
  
• The HRRH Finch Site is at the geographic centre of the area serviced by HRRH
  
• HRRH Finch Site is the most highway-accessible site
  
• The community has donated over 25 million dollars to expand the HRRH Finch Site
  
• HRRH Finch Site has the medical practices of over 130 doctors, and 2 long-term care facilities (over 400 beds) within 3 minutes walking distance from the hospital
  
• The HRRH Finch Site has a quarter of a billion dollars worth of facilities surrounding it –– including, 3 medical buildings, three hotels, two covered malls and an outside mall
  
• HRRH Finch Site has Police 31 Div. Headquarters across the road and close to 2 fire halls
  
• HRRH Finch Site is within walking distance of York University; the future site of a nursing school and a possible medical school
  
• HRRH Finch Site will have the subway, coming close by at Finch at Keele providing great future TTC access to staff patients and their families
  
• HRRH Finch Site has enough land to build on here, and could expand across Finch Ave.
  
• HRRH Finch Site is a critical health, economic, social and employment focus for the area
